Investing together in one ecosystem to achieve more impact. “That’s why a Campus Community Fund is important”, as confirmed by Wiebe Draijer, chairman of the Managing Board Rabobank and Koen Schuiling, mayor of Groningen. Together they have launched the Campus Community Fund in Het Forum Groningen on Tuesday September 1st. This financial platform acts as an instrument to transform the available knowledge and skills on Campus Groningen, and in the region, more effectively into important innovations. The strategy has been shaped by Campus Groningen and its stakeholders, Rabobank Stad en Midden Groningen and companies on the Campus. For the growth of innovations and economic activities, an investment strategy of about 500 million euros has been established in the Campus Community Fund (CCF).

“The ambitions of and for Campus Groningen are big. The five-year strategic plan of the Campus aims at significant developments. With the Campus Community Fund we will structure ‘tomorrow’s capital’ jointly”, says Henk Snapper (Executive Board, UMCG). Dina Boonstra (Managing Director NOM), Peter Scheij (Director Bedrijven Rabobank Stad en Midden Groningen) and Edward van der Meer (Director Campus Groningen) committed themselves today as the first implementing partners.

“The chosen route to invest in the whole ecosystem meets the cooperative mission of Rabobank Stad en Midden Groningen seamlessly. Our social and commercial goals merge perfectly here”, as is stated by Peter Scheij, director Bedrijven from Rabobank Stad en Midden Groningen, about the collaboration within the Campus Community Fund. Dina Boonstra, director NV NOM, emphasizes: “Investing together to transform the available knowledge and skills even more effective into important innovations, with impact for the Northern Netherlands.”

Drivers for Growth

The investment strategy of the CCF expects strong developments within the five regional, core sectors agrifoodenergy, health, chemistry and digital economy, to invest in real estate and infrastructure, facilities and services and business activities on Campus Groningen. Projects from those core sectors and with the characteristics collaboration, cross-overs, economic and social impact, (inter)national character and physical campus development are seen as thé ‘Drivers for Growth’, which are served by the CCF as finance platform.

“I am proud of our collective wish to let our fast-growing Campus shine and develop it further. The development of Campus Groningen is teamwork and an interplay of all kinds of components. We don't look at the separate elements; we look at the whole ecosystem ”, says Edward van der Meer, director Campus Groningen.

Part of Campus Groningen

The Groningen ecosystem is also enthusiastic about the chosen, joint route in the Campus Community Fund. “The belief, the mentality and the trust are there. The companies on Campus Groningen are proud to be a part of this. The Campus Community Fund will help us to think even bigger, and act upon it, explains Ton Vries, Managing Director MercachemSyncom and resident of the Campus..
