On September 13 and 14, an event on the use of biobanks an population data studies by startups, small and medium-sized in the healthy ageing field is hosted in Hotel Het Prinsenhof in Groningen."Biobanks are often viewed as a 'black box' by startups. Entrepreneurs wonder how they can use those data and samples for their product development and business development. And that is exactly what we demonstrate at this congress: how to simply start using these data and samples, what the costs are and how to achieve tangible results for your company", according to dr. Ymke van der Geld, CEO of BiomarkerBay. The company BiomarkerBay is cohosting this event 'Business in Biobanking and Population Health Data'.
The event will also be the kick-off for a business plan competition for start-ups & SMEs all over Europe. Enrolled start-ups and SMEs can also sign up for a two-month business-support programme (free of charge) together with biobank & business experts in order to shape their business plan. All eligible business plan proposals will be reviewed after this period and the winning proposal can receive a voucher of up to €10 000 to cover the fee for the service of undertaking a specific sample or data query.
"A lot of people don't realise that Groningen has a wonderful and extensive biobank infrastructure. To showcase this, the programm is build around five thematic sessions covering a wide range of areas: from cardiometabolic to mental health, and from oncology to longitudinal lifecourse data sources. For every area we have invited two biobanks from Groningen, who show best-practice cases: it really has Groningen written all over it", says dr. Ymke van der Geld.
This way, participants can get a good impression of the goldmines that these biobanks are. But start-ups and SMEs will also get acquainted with the rules and regulations of working with typical private sensitive data. They will be offered on-site support provided by biobank experts trained in business development. Together they can explore the feasibility of their envisioned collaboration, or can examine how and which biobanks and population health data sources can be matched.
Summarizing, what to expect as a participant?
